Mesh Metal Tutorial

Description

ATTENTION: I've found that the hexes plugin, as well as many of those bundled with the program, are not compatible with version 16, 15D, and the 64bit version of 15C. 32bit version of 15C retains compatibility as well as the GUI updates such as variation searching. It's possible this issue MAY be hardware or OS related, but it's unlikely. If you can't get avHexes plugin to work, you'll probably need to downgrade to 15C 32-Bit in order to use this tutorial.

EDIT: the Hexes.86 doesn't have the distorted cell tapering that avHexes does, this may be good or bad depending on your needs. The two share the same variation name, so you won't be able to have both loaded at the same time. For the most part they're interchangeable, if you set a value with avHexes and swap the plugin for Hexes.86, it will still load, but without the tapering, HOWEVER, avHexes has additional variables "Hexes_distort" and "Hexes_z," Hexes.86 does not have these, so if you use them, swapping av with 86 will cancel the effect of these variables and give you an error dialog box when you load the flame.

WARNING, READ READ READ: at least in version 15C Hexes.86 has an error wherein if you set a base variation value higher than 1, it will crash the editor and require restarting apophysis to continue. You can still save the parameters for the flame mind you, you just won't be able to continue editing until you close and restart the program. It won't screw up hours of progress on you as long as you save before reloading, but it can be irritating if you're not careful.

Thought I'd put together a tutorial on how to create the mesh metal look I used to make Black and White. :woohoo:

You should be able to follow this tutorial to the end result even if you've NEVER used Apophysis before, just read everything from top to bottom. If you have used Apophysis and know what you're doing, then just overlook the green text and go right for the blue. The yellow text is just notes.

I know the end result isn't anything spectacular, the idea is to teach how it's done so that it can be incorporated into something else.

As I said in the tutorial I would include some links in my comments, and here they are:

Apophysis 7x by Xyrus02,
and
The Aposhack Plugin Pack put together by phoenixkeyblack.

Additional tutorials that I've found helpful can be found in my collection Tutorials and Utilities.

If you do use this tutorial, I'd love to see what you come up with!

Excellent work here, I always love playing with new texture styles. :)

If you pair it up with a julian instead of a diamond on the first transform you'll get an absolutely beautiful texture :) Thanks :)
