Carpenter Pencil ''Buster Tip''

Description

A tip of my own devising, similar idea to a wedge tip, only more precise and smooth. I call it the Buster tip, as it resembles the tip of the buster sword from FF7. Carved using a razor blade and sandpaper. I carved out the excess near the top to put a pencil grip on it, this makes it comfortable to hold at any rotation, and also makes rotation mid stroke much easier, it isn't necessary, but I strongly suggest it.

Despite the category, I wouldn't really consider this a tutorial as much as a demonstration and some tips. If you want to know how to carve a carpenter pencil, there's plenty of resources available, but it's really all just trial and error. To get this tip, you pretty much just want to expose a centimeter or more of the lead, carve it as close to the shape as you can with the razor blade, and then give it an edge with sandpaper. The tip is self sharpening after the initial carve, so all you should need to do is expose more lead as it nears the wood. Depending on your drawing technique however, it may naturally deteriorate to a shallower angle, at which point you can either use it as is, or re-carve it, it's all a matter of preference. All that said, the point won't last long if that's all you use, you're suppose to switch back and forth between shading and fine lines; if all you need is the point then you should consider sticking with a round/octagon pencil.

I'm in the process of attempting to fill 1095 pages of drawings within the year, and I'll be uploading them to my facebook page. Uploads are infrequent, but every drawing will be uploaded eventually.
